Research Expeditions
Top End Expeditions' vessels are ideal for scientific research. Researchers have the option of using the mothership Auriga Bay II or the two smaller vessels for shallow work.
Auriga Bay II is a comfortable 17 m vessel with air-conditioned accommodation for up to 10 people. The boat has a large aft deck area and duck-board, fitted with easily accessible ladders, which is suitable for a wide range of research and equipment. Auriga Bay II has a reliable 240 volt power supply with surge protection to provide a continuous power supply even in the event of genset failure. Auriga Bay II is in 1B survey and has fuel capacity and freshwater making facilities to stay at sea for several weeks at a time. Auriga Bay II is the ideal platform to conduct extended or open water research.
Top End Expeditions can also provide two smaller vessels for shallow water work and day trips. TE One and TE Two are comfortable 7m vessels equipped with fridges, freezers and toilets. They also have large covered deck areas (with removable canopies) and aft duck-boards with ladders to enable safe and easy water access. Continuous, surge protected 240 volt power is also available. Both vessels are in 2C survey and have a fuel range of up to 300 Nm.
All vessels have electronic navigation equipment to accurately find and/or record global position and water depths.
The crew are tertiary qualified and have experience with scientists in the field.
The crew has a vast knowledge of the local area including species diversity, environmental issues, land use, Indigenous issues, habitat types and, most importantly, weather conditions and seasonal patterns. They also have experience in remote area operations and have the contacts, experience and knowledge to 'get the job done' with a minimum of fuss.
